The Indian Mongoose was introduced to Hawaii in 1883.  They were brought here to help sugar plantations rid their fields of rats.  Because rats are nocturnal and the mongoose hunt by day the plan failed.  They found other things to eat.  Among them is the Hawaii State bird, the Nene or Hawaiian Goose.
