Classroom Presentations

We bring the watershed to you! Our classroom presentations consist of a PowerPoint slide show that provides an in-depth discussion about the functions of a watershed, Hawaiian rainforest ecology, and natural resource management. Students may also get a chance to make their own watersheds, shaping and changing it from the first lava flows to speciation, to the arrival of humans, and finally to the current state of affairs today.

hikes and field studies

What better way to learn about watersheds and Hawaiian rainforests than to actually be in one! We offer interpretive hikes into Waikamoi Preserve for interested educators and other organized groups and clubs. Our preference is to provide a classroom presentation followed by a field trip. You will need to provide your own transportation to the site.

A great way to really learn about the watershed is to arrange a field study. This activity is for educators on Maui who are willing and capable of going the extra mile. EMWP may be able to provide a site for and assist with creating a short 1 or 2 day field study for students to learn natural resource management skills. Call or email us to see if a field study can be arranged for you and your students.

"oooh, this is fun and yucky!" comments one 5th grade student from Carden Academy as he slops his hands in a bin of what looks like white mud.
