Last week the EMWP crew did a work exchange with the East Molokai Watershed Partnership as part an effort through the Hawaiʻi Association of Watershed Partnerships (HAWP). The purpose of these work exchange trips is to learn about other islands and what conservation efforts are being done allowing conservation professionals to share ideas and concepts in helping to protect our native species. Projects included working in the East Molokai Watershed helping to repair a boardwalk in The Nature Conservancy’s Kamakou Preserve. We were also able to visit The Nature Conservancy’s Moʻomomi Preserve to view native coastal plants and their construction of fence to keep deer from grazing on them. Mahalo to East Molokai Watershed Partnership and HAWP for allowing us to visit these special places and teaching us about the conservation work being done on Molokai.
