EMWP Mission
To protect the watershed from degradation by pooling expertise and resources to develop a plan for funding and implementing an active management program
Goals
1
Control erosion and its negative impacts to streams, water supplies and near shore reefs
2
Preserve the island’s biodiversity and unique flora and fauna
3
Foster the development of an informed public, educated about watershed protection and other important conservation issues
A very simple explanation to Resource Management in Hawaiʻi
Fence it! – most effective way to reduce damage by ungulates in conservation areas
Restore it – reintroduce native flora and fauna to the area that have been lost
Remove invasive species from fenced area – removal of both flora and fauna
Manage it – persistent action is needed to sustain a healthy ecosystem with various threats surrounding it
Watch it thrive!
